Dr. Lita Mathews, a native of Northern New Mexico,
who's family has resided in the same Native Community five hundred years, is a
champion Powwow Dancer. Over the past twenty years has proven herself in the
powwow arena as a true champion. Her traditional style of dancing depicts the
oldest plains style of dancing for Native American women.
Lita Mathews
has been performing with the Gathering of Nations Traveling Show for the past
ten years. She has performed several times nationally and internationally. She
has appeared as a representative for Native people on various TV shows on NBC,
the Discovery Channel, MTV, French TV, Italian TV, and Telemundo.
Dr. Mathews received her PhD from the University of
New Mexico in 1999. She has numerous publications to her credit, both academic
and literary. Dr. Mathews holds the responsibilities as a founding board member
of the Gathering of Nations, Ltd. (a non profit organization) and is responsible
for it's educational component.
